Gang of Eight grows to 20: DACA amnesty for border wall pretty much a done deal

In an article I wrote last week, I documented how Trump and the GOP were resurrecting Lindsey Graham’s Gang of Eight for the purpose of creating a plan to grant amnesty and an eventual pathway to citizenship for millions of so-called DREAMers by making DACA permanent in exchange for border wall funding.

Part of their plan to put the Gang of Eight Band back together included getting new members to join the ensemble, and they succeeded by adding several RINO senators along with a bona fide, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner.

However, despite attempts by the Dealmaker-in-Chief and his Trumplican minions in the Senate to get their so-called win-win deal across the finish line, they’ve had little success so far.

So, what do you do when faced with such failure? Do you admit your betrayal to the American people and redirect your efforts toward keeping your promise to fix the illegal immigration problem? Or do you double-down on your perfidious plan?

Well, this is Trump and the GOP we’re talking about here, so … .

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s right-hand man, Sen. John Cornyn, announced yesterday that he was creating an even bigger gang than Lindsey Graham created — the Gang of 20.

Comprised of 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans — or 20 unibrows, to be accurate — the Gang of 20 will be tasked with trying to do what the Gang of Eight failed to do.

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) is a member of this new gang but refused to confirm how many are in it or who the members are. He did, however, share the goals of the new gang:

“We are just trying to get the members to talk about a way we can work out of it. It’s good that we’ve got Democrats and Republicans in the room. The real question is, can we come up with something that makes progress on border security funding and things that are priorities for my Democratic colleagues.”

Taking care of Democrat priorities. Yeah, that’s exactly what conservatives had in mind when they voted Republican.

To be fair, Tillis was merely stating the obvious. Using the original Gang of Eight legislation passed six years ago in the Senate — it failed in the House — as a starting point, Tillis and Cornyn confirmed that the Gang of 20 will pursue border security funding in exchange for something the Democrats want, such as legalizing DREAMers.
