If America has learned anything over the past eight years, it’s just how far we have fallen from the government established by the founding fathers. Or as Abraham Lincoln called it, the government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
We have a president who rules as if he were a king, a congress that is corrupt and out of touch with the people, and a court system that has become the tyrannical “overruling influence” James Madison warned us about.
Sadly, the American electorate has become so ignorant and indifferent about what we’ve lost and where we’re heading, they have fallen for the lie that the answer to fixing our problems will be found in electing more of the same. They fail to realize that neither Trump nor Hillary will restore the presidency to its proper role, and that electing more republicans to a congress with an approval rating under 20% won’t restore representative government or reign in judicial overreach.
Fortunately, the Founding Fathers knew that America might end up where we are today, and they provided a solution to fix it . . . the Article V Convention of States.
Michael Farris—a constitutional attorney and co-founder of the Convention of States Project—explains it this way:
“What America needs right now is more than a change in personnel; we need to change structure. The Founders understood the importance of structure and they gave that power to the states in Article V so that when the federal government overstepped its bounds, we the people through our legislatures can re-calibrate it.”
I’m a #NeverTrump / #NeverHillary voter. This has prompted many of my readers and listeners to ask me what to do since those are the choices we have been given by the two-party machine. My answer has always been to reject the lie that these two NY Liberals are the only hope we have. Our hope of restoring constitutional conservatism won’t be found in the next president, nor will it be found by adding Republicans to congress—although we should still support down-ballot, conservative Republicans.
Restoring America will only happen when we the people take back the power our Founding Fathers gave us. By the way, there’s a lot of incorrect information about the Convention of States. To clear away some of the fog of confusion, the Convention of State Project will be conducting a convention simulation of how this will work.
Convention of States test run of Amendments Convention
Convention of States leadership will host a series of Facebook live events starting Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at 9:00 p.m. (EDT) on the Convention of States Project Facebook page. Mark Meckler and Michael Farris will discuss how the simulated convention will change the fight forever and show activists how to get involved ahead of the Williamsburg event.
