Here’s a question. What do you do if you’re the GOP and you have no discernible policy accomplishments to run on in 2020 and no agenda other than getting elected? You engage in the politics of distraction by recycling the lies from past campaigns and by demonizing your unibrow counterparts on the Democrat side of the aisle, even though Republicans want many of the same things.
“Vote Republican because #notDemocrat” could be the campaign slogan of every Republican running for office.
Following the rise of Democratic socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the growing acceptance of what some on the left like to call “Capitalism Plus,” Republicans are adding socialism to their arsenal of political labels to use against the Democrats. Ironic and hypocritical because the GOP is directly responsible for the growing popularity of socialist ideology and have taken up socialism-lite mantle of “conservative socialism.”
I’ve written recently how faux conservative media outlets like BlazeTV have become a pro-Trump and pro-GOP echo chamber where conservative values have been abandoned in exchange for GOP talking points, including those dealing with socialism.
“If the Republicans don’t win this next election, I think we are officially at the end of the country as we know it. We may not survive even if we win, but we definitely don’t if the Republicans lose with Donald Trump.”
So, I didn’t find it all that surprising when Blaze Media’s Nate Madden wrote a GOP-friendly piece for Conservative Review about the newly formed House Anti-Socialism Caucus, a group created to “fight back the new wave of socialist sympathies.”
The brainchild of Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT), the new caucus’ purpose is to “inform lawmakers and the public on the dangers of socialism and to stand as a bulwark to stop the advancement of socialist policies and legislation.”
If Stewart had concluded his announcement with the news that he was leaving the GOP, I may have gotten a little excited. Unfortunately, he didn’t, nor did he make any mention of conservatism. As it turns out, there’s a good reason for the omission because of the eight founding members of the Anti-Socialism Caucus, only two possess a passing Liberty Score®, one of them a “D.”
Here’s a list of the eight with their scores:
- Rep. Chris Stewart (UT) – 58% (F)
- Rep. Rob Bishop (UT) – 48% (F)
- Rep. Vicki Hartzler (MO) – 50% (F)
- Rep. Bill Flores (TX) – 53% (F)
- Rep. Brad Wenstrup (OH) – 56% (F)
- Rep. Roger Williams (TX) – 67% (D)
- Rep. Ralph Norman (SC) – 81% (B)
- Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (PA) – only in office three months, so no score
Using Conservative Review’s measure of conservatism, only one of these Representatives is even worth mentioning, let alone praised. Unfortunately, that’s the condition of faux conservative media outlets like Blaze Media, and it’s the primary reason why conservatism is dying in America.
When BlazeTV and CRTV merged, Glenn Beck assured consumers that “Conservatives, libertarians, constitutionalists, and more [would] have a home at Blaze Media.” He further stated, “Our hosts will have differences, but we share a common belief in free expression, honest discourse, and a society founded on the principles of the Bill of Rights. I’m beyond thrilled about this merger.”
I wish we had THAT Blaze Media instead of the one we ended up with.
