When Paul Ryan was anointed the successor to John “Tears of a Clown” Boehner, one of the first commitments he made was to end business as usual, a promise that he immediately broke when he joined forces with Mitch “Lying Eyes” McConnell to pass an omnibus in order to avoid a so-called government shutdown.
In the omnibus, the Paul Ryan-led RINOs handed Obama a blank check that fully funded his executive amnesty, Planned Parenthood, and refugee programs. In other words, he financed the same business as usual government he promised to bring to an end.
So it should come as no surprise that the Ryan-led Republicans joined forces with Obama to expand government control of education last month when they passed and Obama signed into law—he called it a “Christmas Miracle”—the Every Student Succeeds Act to further federalize and dumb down American children via government schools.
To say that it is a disaster for education, children, parents, liberty, and the U.S. Constitution is an understatement.
As the details of this Common Core replacement become known, we are learning how the government plans to gradually reduce the role of parents to raise and care for their children as they roll out a “Community Schools” program that would make a communist dictator jealous with envy.
These controversial institutions seek to oversee every aspect of your child’s life, ranging from “mental health” and “well being” to nutrition and even dentistry. The bill aims to turn government schools into parents, and parents into pariahs.
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) was one of the driving forces in getting this scheme through Congress:
“Promoting full-service community schools has been a priority of mine for many years, and this legislation builds on earlier efforts to promote and expand this model, which brings existing critical community services for children and their parents—such as early childhood learning, medical and dental screenings, and career counseling—into schools.”
In other words, the responsibilities that used to belong to parents will be taken from them and turned over to the state.
According to Dan Domenech, executive director of the School Superintendents Association (AASA), it is the job of school bureaucrats to assume the role of families and parents in raising our children:
“In a broad ESSA that offers comprehensive reauthorization, we are proud to continue to support the Community Schools model and commend Congress for including the program in the reauthorization. The full Service Community Schools program encompasses more than just academics—it ensures success beyond the inside of school buildings.” (emphasis mine)
Critics have been sounding the alarm about this latest overreach of government. Attorney and activist Jane Robbins with Truth in American Education, for instance, said that the “community learning centers” scheme means “schools will be expanded to replace family and church as the center of every child’s life, offering myriad ‘services’ including mental-health programs.” She concluded:
“Few things should alarm parents more than the prospect of the government’s assessing their child’s mental health and proceeding to fix any problem the government claims to find.”
Clearly this scheme gives Obama the tools he needs to continue “fundamentally transforming” America, which is why Ryan & Company’s betrayal of Conservative values, along with their oath to protect and defend the Constitution, is so egregious.
And it’s one more reason why we need to show these losers the door in November.
