It should come as no surprise that our out-of-control government seeks to confound us. In truth, how hard could it be to confuse a populous that is so fascinated by fast food served to college football players that it captivates headlines for weeks?
An honest conversation is long overdue in the pro-life community to address the irrefutable facts that lend credence to the false left-right paradigm theory. Frankly, there is far worse than high calorie “hamberders” on the menu in Washington, D.C.
Last week the New York Senate chamber erupted in jubilant celebration after a 38-28 vote on the Reproductive Health Act that guarantees the following:
- Adds abortion to the New York Constitution
- Codifies Roe v. Wade
- Removes abortion from the state’s criminal code
- Allows non-physicians to perform abortions
- Allows abortion through the third trimester, up until birth, for any reason
- Repeals protections for babies who survive abortion
The new law states in part, “Every individual has the fundamental right to choose or refuse contraception or sterilization. Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion, pursuant to this article.”
The pro-life community, rightfully despondent and justifiably angry by the actions of the Democrat led Legislature, is reeling from this resounding defeat. However, many “pro-life” Republicans have reserved outrage for their own party for failing the pro-life agenda every single year since Roe v. Wade.
How do they expect to remain a legitimate force in pro-life politics while ignoring the truth about their own party’s complicity in the pro-abortion agenda? Sadly, many pro-lifers willfully marched alongside thousands of MAGA hat apologists for the sake of party loyalty.
Donald Trump tweeted 21 times on the heels of the New York Assembly’s Legislative monstrosity. He complained about “fake news,” boasted about his approval ratings among Latinos, recognized the new President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, grumbled about “Crooked Hillary” and her lawyer, promoted his new “wall” slogan and he even took the time to congratulate Mariano Rivera on his unanimous election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. But, he offered no comment about the atrocious RHA. Perhaps because his New York values “are a little different” than if he lived in Iowa.
New York values on full display in Albany, New York as members of the state senate conference celebrated the passage of the RHA.
One day before the Reproductive Health Act passed in New York, Planned Parenthood released its 2017 fiscal year report. The largest abortion provider in the U.S. reported that it received $563.8 million in revenue from the Republican led, federal government; an increase of $20.1 million from the reported $543.7 million in fiscal 2016.
Additionally, Planned Parenthood reported that it performed 332,757 abortions in fiscal 2017. This was 11,373 more abortions than the 321,384 reported in fiscal 2016. With a full Republican majority in every branch of federal government, abortions increased by 3% in 2017 — making it the highest number of abortions performed by Planned Parenthood since 2011.
This report was unsurprising to pro-life conservatives who have followed every spending measure with bated breath hoping for some semblance of a fight for the unborn from the party of “family values.” With two years and a full majority in every branch of government, Republicans offered the unborn nothing except egregious betrayal, shameless deflection and unspeakable lies.
With all of the manufactured sectarian outrage over fast food, smirking kids and shutdown showdowns; can pro-lifers muster any REAL outrage over accountability for life? If you are genuinely pro-life ask yourself if it matters to you that Republicans in Washington are as culpable as the NY State Legislature in advancing the pro-abortion agenda.
How can anyone claim to be defending life while defending Republicans with fresh blood dripping from their hands?
