How will ‘Christians’ react to COVID vaccine mandates for kids?
With America on the verge of a national COVID vaccine mandate for kids, how will “Christians” who have already bowed to tyranny react?
Evangelical Christians have traditionally come down on the side of the nuclear family and the role of parents as spelled out in Scripture, but that might not be the case any longer.
In the early days of the so-called pandemic, COVID Christians, as I’ve come to call them, openly embraced tyranny and oppression in a vain attempt to relieve themselves of the guilt they felt after surrendering to coronavirus hysteria and to inflict guilt on other believers who refused to surrender with them.
Today, after nearly two years of “two weeks to flatten the curve,” COVID Christians have given their game of manipulation and shaming a boost by accusing believers who reject mask and vaccine mandates of hating their fellow man and of not being pro-life.
That was the conclusion of David French in an August 2021 edition of The French Press newsletter when he wrote that “there’s no religious liberty interest in refusing the COVID vaccine.” He said, in part:
“I have liberty, yes, but my liberty does not extend to taking or endangering your life (this is one reason why Roe v. Wade is such a profound violation of our founding principles).
“The state is able to regulate even the strongest of liberties when it possesses a “compelling governmental interest” and places those regulations in proper limits. And what are some legally recognized “compelling” interests? Foremost among them are protections for life and health.
“By contrast, what does the anti-vax Christian seek? The liberty to risk both the lives of others (through the physical danger of COVID and/or the danger of swamped medical facilities) and their pursuit of happiness (through the continued physical, economic, and social strains of a pandemic extended in part but the choices of anti-vax citizens).” (emphasis mine)
I don’t want you to miss the first sentence I highlighted. David French draws a direct parallel between those who support abortion (Roe v. Wade) and those who refuse the COVID vaccine.
Another self-proclaimed Christian playing this angle is faux-conservative radio talk show host Erick Erickson.
In the early days of coronavirus hysteria (May 2020), Erickson lashed out at believers who objected to mask mandates. In tweets that he has since deleted, the man working on his theology degree labeled anyone defending liberty against the government’s tyrannical response to coronavirus “a selfish asshole” and a “whiny little bitch.”
In September 2021, Erickson lobbed another round of attacks against fellow believers, this time for not getting the COVID vaccine, calling them “idiots” for refusing the prick — I mean the shot, not Erickson — and he concluded that they were “evil” people guilty of “doing the bidding of Satan.”
I think it’s safe to conclude that French and Erickson will join the chorus of COVID Christians who will “spiritualize” and come out in support of vaccine mandates for kids.
Ironically, using COVID vaccines as a measure of how pro-life someone is or isn’t might actually be accurate, though not in the way the army of self-righteous “Christians” intended.
It turns out that support for vaccine mandates is more anti-life than opposing them; especially when we’re talking about our kids via Christianity Daily):
Right before the Halloween weekend, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine for children aged 5 to 11, enabling about 28 million kids across the country to get it, if they or their parents wish to.
Acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock said in a statement that “Vaccinating younger children against COVID-19 will bring us closer to returning to a sense of normalcy,” CNBC reported. The kids’ COVID shots will be a low-dose vaccine for kids or a third of a dosage given to adults.
Former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Dr. Ben Carson recently expressed his opposition to vaccinating children against COVID. Dr. Carson … vaccinating children against COVID is a “giant experiment.”
In a recent appearance at Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Dr. Carson was asked … if he thinks children should be inoculated against COVID. He replied, “Absolutely not.”
“The fact of the matter is, the mortality rate for children from COVID-19 is 0.025, which is very similar to the rate for seasonal flu,” Dr. Carson reasoned, as reported by The Blaze. “And we haven’t been for years and years going through all these things for seasonal flu.”
Dr. Carson argued that the long-term implications of the pediatric COVID vaccines are currently unknown, which should spark red flags for parents. He said, “We don’t know what the long-term impact of these vaccines is, so this is really sort of a giant experiment.”
Ironically, a Harvard professor of immunology who also serves as a voting member of the FDA advisory committee that approved the COVID vaccine last week for children 5 to 11 years old, Dr. Eric Ruben, actually admitted that the push to get kids vaccinated is like running an experiment to see what potential effects it will have on children.
“We’re never gonna learn about how safe the vaccine is until we start giving it,” Dr. Ruben said.
Dr. Carson doubts the efficacy of the COVID vaccines for children, and he rhetorically asked parents if they were willing to “put our children at risk, when we know that the risk of the disease to them is relatively small” especially when “we don’t know what the future risks are.” (emphasis mine)
Unfortunately, COVID Christians appear to be willing to take that risk with their kids, meaning they’ll likely support vaccine mandates like those already being launched in major cities like San Francisco even if parents object.
I guess it’s what Jesus would do.
