Apparently, Obama really does consider himself the king of America. On Wednesday, his highness decreed himself lord of the waters as he claimed dominion over all of the nation’s streams, creeks, rills, ditches, books, rivulets, burns, tributaries, cricks, wetlands–probably the puddle in your driveway–in a sweeping move meant to assert his unilateral federal authority.
Using the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers, Obama will use the authority he claims to possess to finalize a clean water rule intended to protect the streams and wetlands that one in three Americans rely on for drinking water.
Under the cover of the Clean Water Act, federal officials say they are simply trying to help businesses comply with regulations; no small task considering the thousands and thousands of regulations heaped on American businesses since the king began his reign.
“This rule is about clarification, and in fact, we’re adding exclusions for features like artificial lakes and ponds, water-filled depressions from construction and grass swales,” said EPA boss Gina McCarthy. “This rule will make it easier to identify protected waters and will make those protections consistent with the law as well as the latest peer-reviewed science. This rule is science based.”
Wait a minute! Haven’t we heard the “settled science” line before when Obama wielded his iron hammer on coal-fired power plants?
Not surprisingly, the top Democrat on the Environmental and Public Works Committee and senator from the state experiencing one of the worst droughts in its history, Senator Barbara Boxer of California, thinks the royal decree is awesome.
“The Obama administration listened to all perspectives and developed a final rule that will help guarantee safe drinking water supplies for American families (read: Californians) and businesses and restore much-needed certainty, consistency, and effectiveness to the Clean Water Act,” said Boxer.
Tough luck all you California farmers. If you thought protecting the smelt made water nearly impossible to obtain, just wait until this kicks in.
Republicans in the House of Representatives have expressed their commitment to fighting back this radical move by King Obama. However, based on their “fights” so far against Obamacare, Obama’s executive amnesty, and some of the other items on his majesty’s agenda, it’s more likely than not that the king’s decree is as good as done.
