If we’ve learned anything this election season, it’s how the inside-the-beltway establishment RINOs within the Republican party have targeted the conservative base for elimination. We need look no further than the hijacking of the Republican National Convention by the party power brokers as they broke their own rules to ensure the nomination of a New York Liberal as their presidential candidate.
The hatred of Conservatives by Mitch McConnell, Reince Priebus, and company has been on full display before, during, and after the coronation of Donald Trump. However, as election day draw near, we are beginning to hear from a few of these invertebrates as they beg us for the votes that Donald Trump said he no longer wanted or needed.
On Monday, John McCain stated during a radio interview at a Philadelphia talk station that the GOP stands united to block any and all Supreme Court nominees from Hillary Clinton.
“I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up. I promise you . . .”
This is likely an indication that John McCain and the establishment GOP realize that they blew it with Trump, but I think it’s much more than that.
Saving the Supreme Court is the #1 reason Evangelicals give for voting for Trump and other Republicans. And while McCain is enjoying a comfortable lead in his reelection bid in Arizona, Trump isn’t faring all that well. By making this promise, McCain is attempting to stir up the base to vote Republican. Nothing more.
Proof of my contention was revealed later that same day when one of McCain’s aids provided so-called clarification, stating that he will examine the record of anyone nominated for the high court and vote based on their qualification.
Translation? After the election, Hillary’s nominees are as good as confirmed.
The real tragedy of this scenario is that things are not likely to be any different even if Trump wins. While he has provided a list of Conservative candidates he says he’ll nominate, he already backtracked on those names. And he’s even stated how his pro-abortion sister would make a great Supreme Court Justice.
McCain created this ruckus for one reason alone . . . to bait Conservatives in an effort to gain their votes, even though he and his buddies on Capitol Hill despise them. Hopefully, Conservatives won’t fall for what is almost guaranteed to be nothing other than another broken GOP promise.
