Following his unconstitutional executive orders last week restricting our gun rights, Obama hit the campaign trail again—as if he ever left—to hold a series of town hall meetings to drum up support of his actions while ridiculing and belittling the citizens he claims to represent.
At his first stop on January 7—televised by the Clinton News Network (CNN)—Obama mocked those who were concerned that his expansion of background checks could lead to further actions where the government would push for gun confiscation, calling it an “imaginary fiction” being pushed by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
CNN published the text and video of the meeting, and it shows that husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and gun-control zealot, Mark Kelly, served as the straight man to the routine as he used the confiscation issue to set up Obama’s witty retort.
Recalling his testimony on gun control in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Kelly said:
“… we heard not only from the gun lobby, but from United States Senators that expanding background checks will, not may, lead to a registry, which will lead to confiscation, which will lead to a tyrannical government.”
Then Kelly looked at Obama and said:
“I would like you to explain with 350 million guns in 65 million places, households, from Key West to Alaska; 350 million objects in 65 million places, if the Federal government wanted to confiscate those objects, how would they do that?”
With the setup completed, Obama was given all he needed defend his unconstitutional actions using the type of mockery we’ve come to expect from the Chicago politician and narcissist.
Kelly carefully picked words, delivered with the right tone of voice, to make it seem like any attempt by the federal government to seize our guns was too laughable to be taken seriously. But with Obama choosing to sidestep the Constitution whenever it suits his agenda, and with a complacent Republican party controlling Congress, what would stop him from taking future executive actions to institute a gun registry, which would provide the government with all they need to begin confiscation?
Not so funny when you think about it, is it?
