I hope everyone enjoyed National Cheese Pizza Day yesterday. Yeah, I know, it was Labor Day, but eating a cheese pizza is a lot more fun than celebrating President Grover Cleveland’s attempt to buy union votes during his reelection in 1894 when he made it a national holiday. According to the politicians, it was established in order to recognize American prosperity and greatness. If that’s true, it should have been called Free Market Capitalism Day!
But I digress . . .
Yesterday was the beginning of the G20 meetings in China, and right on cue Barack Obama stood before the microphones on the global stage as he ignored his economic failures while simultaneously endorsing Black Lives Matter and tearing down American greatness.
Mere days after the administration officially distanced itself–sort of–from the narcissistic behavior of Colin Kaepernick after he refused to stand for the national anthem before an NFL preseason game, Obama bravely waited until he was on the ground in China before expressing his support for the San Francisco 49er backup quarterback. As a result, Obama essentially stated his agreement with Kaepernick’s Black Lives Matter rant about the oppression and murder of black people at the hands of white America.
“My understanding at least is that he’s exercising his constitutional right to make a statement. If nothing else, what he’s done is he’s generated more conversation around some topics that need to be talked about.”
Okay, a couple of things here. There’s no constitutional right to free speech for employees while at work. The Constitution only prevents the government from restricting speech—not employers. Kaepernick is an employee of the NFL and was on the clock at the time of his so-called protest. As I wrote a few days ago, his employer could put this situation to bed, along with the negative publicity, but they won’t because the NFL is run by a collection of cowards when it comes to tough issues like these.
Obama then tried to justify his race-baiting defense of Kaepernick:
“I’d rather have young people who are engaged and trying to think through how they can be part of our democratic process than people just sitting on the sidelines not paying attention at all.”
Maybe not the best analogy by the president. After all, sitting on the sidelines is how this whole thing started — insert rim shot sound effect here. However, if engagement is what it takes to get Obama excited then he should be cool with the Dallas sniper or the riots in Baltimore and Ferguson. After all, weren’t they just a bunch of “engaged” people looking for a way to be a part of the process?
In the end, the NFL needs to do its job and officially deal with this situation by letting its employees know what’s expected of them, and Barack Obama needs to stop with his never-ending race-baiting. Unfortunately . . . neither is likely to happen.
