At the National Prayer Breakfast a few days ago, Obama equated the atrocities of ISIS to the deeds of Christians throughout history, telling those in attendance to get off their high horse when they judge the evils of the terrorist group. Well, apparently he thinks that the media needs to back off as well.
In an interview with a liberal online journalist at Vox.com—I guess GloZell Green was too busy eating a bathtub full of Fruit Loops to do the job—Obama shared his concerns that the media has been hyping their coverage of terrorist groups like ISIS.
When asked a leading question by Vox’s Matthew Yglesias as to whether or not the press “overstates the level of alarm people should have” about terrorism and understates it when it comes to issues like “climate change and epidemic disease,” Obama agreed that the media “absolutely” exaggerates the threat posed by Islamic terrorists.
“You show crime stories and you show fires, because that’s what folks watch, and it’s all about ratings,” Obama stated. “And, you know, the problems of terrorism and dysfunction and chaos, along with plane crashes and a few other things, that’s the equivalent when it comes to covering international affairs.”
Obama went on to insist that airplane disasters and bloody acts of Islamic terrorism in places like Paris and New York City are “sexy”—you mean like 9/11?—while covering events like the global reduction in infant morality rates are not. Then there are other issues like climate change, which both Obama and John Kerry have already said represents a greater threat to our lives than Islamic terrorists.
So, the media hypes bad news but won’t cover global warming? Using Obama’s logic on these matters, doesn’t that mean that global warming isn’t the threat Obama and Kerry say it is? But I digress…
If the mainstream media were the equivalent of an expensive, upscale Beverly Hills restaurant, Vox.com would a microwave hot dog from 7-11. So we shouldn’t be all that surprised that Obama is pandering to this liberal rag.
But his continual appeasement of radical Islam, and his total disregard of national security, should be a major concern.
