I never cease to be amazed at how Trump and the so-called conservative media continue to prove how right I am about their politically incestuous relationship.
It was Monday when I wrote a piece about how conservative media outlets in TV and radio had become willing allies in Donald Trump’s war on conservatism and the free press. So, I wasn’t all that surprised by two news stories over the past 48 hours that confirmed my conclusions.
First, we received word that Trump is still very upset with the media coverage he’s receiving from CNN, so much so that he offered up an Orwellian idea to rid himself of that pesky First Amendment by creating a state-run media company.
“While CNN doesn’t do great in the United States based on ratings, outside the US they have very little competition. Throughout the world, CNN has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way.
“Something has to be done, including the possibility of the United States starting our own Worldwide Network to show the world the way we really are, GREAT!”
Yeah, state-run media is so much better than anything the Founding Fathers came up with. Besides, God-given rights are secondary to Trump’s need to feed his egomaniacal narcissism.
The second bit of news involved Trump’s morning intel team at FOX & Friends, and a 2017 interview they had with former head of the EPA Scott Pruitt at a time when he was under an ethics investigation — one of many that eventually led to his resignation — for spending taxpayer dollars on personal travel.
The interview was teased by FOX & Friends as an opportunity for Pruitt to show America how the EPA was helping Trump “drain the swamp.” In reality, it was essentially a staged bit of propaganda where the hosts became spectators in an example of what Trump TV might look like.
FOX & Friends sent interview questions in advance to Pruitt for his approval and allowed him to edit and/or delete questions he disliked. In addition, Pruitt provided his own topics and questions and demanded that they be accepted as a condition for granting the interview. As we see in the video below, FOX & Friends gleefully accepted his terms thus allowing the propaganda production to be aired as scripted.
Trump has been working to create a state-run media from the beginning of his presidency, and the FOX News Trump propaganda machine has been doing what they can to help him build it.
Man, I’m so glad we didn’t elect Hillary.
