During the “fundamental transformation of America” presidency of Barack Hussein Obama, a movement took root within the Republican party known as the Tea Party. This ragtag group of activist Americans led the call for smaller government and a return to the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness given to us by our Creator and guaranteed by the Constitution.
As the movement grew, the Tea Party became synonymous with Constitutional conservatism, but with Obama gone and with the passing of time, the movement has grown weak as it embraces the faux conservatism of Donald Trump and the GOP establishment. One such group, Tea Party Patriots is the latest evidence of this sad reality.
On Monday, Tea Party Patriots released a statement of support for another effort at fake-repeal of Obamacare by the GOP (Gang of Phonies). This latest piece of Repeal-In-Name-Only legislation is cosponsored by Senators Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy, Dean Heller, and Ron Johnson—a group of Republicans possessing Conservative Review Liberty scores of “F,” “F,” “D” and “F” respectively. This information alone is enough to know that this is a bad deal.
Tea Party Patriots admit that this last-ditch effort—fully supported by Donald Trump—fails to repeal Obamacare, but they have an answer for that. Tea Party Patriots will support fake-repeal, but in return, they insist that Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan “get their priorities straight” and that the bill be used as a “step toward repeal.”
“Tea Party Patriots should support Graham-Cassidy as a step toward full repeal.
“We are willing to bend and give to get as much as we can right now in a good faith effort to find a solution that can get 51 votes and repeal as much of ObamaCare now as possible.
“In return, we insist that Senate Majority Leader McConnell and House Speaker Ryan get their priorities straight.”
Well, if you’re going to insist that this be the first step toward full repeal and that Micky and company do their job from now on, then by all means, sell your soul because that approach has worked so well in the past.
The truth of the matter is that this “not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good” attitude is what put America where she is today, and it gave us Donald Trump and the GOP establishment. This capitulation is an act of political adultery by Tea Party Patriots, and it’s nothing more than a desperate attempt at gaining a seat at Trump’s table. It might work, but in the end it will cost them their credibility.
Conservative ideals are no longer a part of the GOP and the rest of the Washington establishment. Unfortunately, it looks like Conservatives no longer have a home with the Tea Party either.
