As a pro-life activist and a follower of Christ, it is such an enormous spiritual burden to witness the evil being perpetrated against the unborn in America today. Pro-life proponents are battling the forces of evil from both the Democrats — who are implementing reprehensible laws that make infanticide legal — and the Republicans who are actively funding abortion at every stage of development, right up until birth.
The Deception
Republicans were given an unprecedented opportunity in 2016 when they were elected into the trifecta of power in Washington, D.C. They boldly campaigned on the promise to defund Planned Parenthood. State by state, they were elected to go to Washington and do just that.
In the two years that they held the majority, they not only failed to defund PP; they increased the amount of taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood by nearly $21 million dollars over the previous year which resulted in the largest number of murdered babies since 2011.
As if that weren’t heinous enough, they continued and increased funding for Human Fetal Tissue Research.
History of the National Institute of Health Human Fetal Tissue Research
Since its legalization in 1993, Human Fetal Tissue Research has led to enormous controversy and partisan debate. The statute makes it legal to use aborted fetal tissue for various research and experiments. As America witnessed in 2015, apart from the moral considerations, the legal implications are equally egregious.
In 2015, the anti-abortion group, Center for Medical Progress, provided what they claim is undercover video evidence of Planned Parenthood facilities harvesting baby parts for profit. The Republican led House opened an investigation into fetal tissue research.
Democrats and Republicans were divided amid a move by Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood over the alleged sales of fetal tissue for research. The result of the investigation yielded a termination of contract between FDA and Advanced Bioscience Resources, Inc. and an audit by HHS of all department contracts that involve human fetal tissue. The contract was only recently terminated and the audit has never been completed.
In 2017, Republicans paid a lot of lip service about barring funding for NIH fetal tissue research. But, instead they extended the spending levels into the 2018 budget year through continuing resolution without controversial policy riders.
In September 2018, Health and Human Services began auditing all research involving human fetal tissue at the urging of the pro-life community who was rightfully angered by legislation that fully funded Planned Parenthood and human fetal tissue research.
In late September 2018 – Republicans on Capitol Hill passed and Donald Trump signed HR 6157; which provided expanded funding for human fetal tissue research and Planned Parenthood operations. The National Institute of Health estimated that it spent $81 million on fetal tissue research in 2018. To put it into perspective, that is more than the $79 million spent on human fetal tissue research in 2010, when Obama governed with a full Democrat majority in Congress.
The NIH estimates human fetal tissue research funding will exceed $103 million in FY 2019.
Senator Rand Paul took to the Senate floor to lambast his Republican colleagues ahead of the HR 6157 vote that funded both Planned Parenthood and human fetal tissue research. “The public has long known that the Democrats are the abortion party. Now the public will know that many Republicans just give lip service to pro-life issues and are really more concerned with bloated government spending than with saving lives,” he asserted.
In 2019, after a month-long government shutdown over wall funding, Donald Trump conceded to the House Democrat majority without a penny for the wall and signed a CR that continues to fully fund Planned Parenthood and human fetal tissue research through mid-February. No date has been offered for a public review of the ongoing HHS audit. And, still no legislation has been offered by Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood or human fetal tissue research.
The Path Forward
The truth is, Donald Trump and the GOP have set the pro-life movement back decades. Evidenced by the move from “life begins at conception” to “ban late term abortions” with one SOTU speech. The Democrats took a giant leap toward communism and the Republicans followed suit. It is as if the unborn have been offered to the snares of Satan by Republicans who have manipulated a voting block into believing they are pro-life while actively funding abortion on demand up until the moment of birth.
It is disheartening to witness evil gain a foothold with a little tickling of the ears of the willfully blind and woefully ignorant.
In the SOTU speech, Trump read from his teleprompter: “And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: All children – born and unborn – are made in the holy image of God.” The words that all who believe in the sanctity of human life want to hear. However, discernible policy outcomes over the last two years do not, in any way, reflect these words.
In 1999, he gave an unscripted interview in which he candidly stated: “Look, I’m very pro-choice in every respect” when asked “would a President Trump ban partial-birth abortion?”
While it is true that people can change, it is irrefutable that discernible policy outcomes over the last two years accurately reflect these words.
I urge you to stop being pro-partisan because you can no longer honestly claim to be pro-life if you are. The actions of Republicans in Washington do not reflect their words. You are being deceived. Don’t serve the lie. Life still begins at conception and we must not surrender that truth to Satan, K Street, Democrats or Republicans.

The pro-life, conservative, Christian community has suffered the greatest losses under the new Nationalist movement. But, there is a way forward. It begins with the courage to tell the truth no matter how inconvenient and ugly that truth is. It requires consistency and an unwavering commitment to labor for the unborn.
