Under a law known as the “Emergencies Act,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will rule Canada much like Emperor Palpatine ruled the Galactic Empire by using “temporary measures” that allow him to wield open-ended power against Canadian citizens in order to squash Freedom Convoy protesters for daring to protest his tyrannical reign.
Trudeau announced his intention to seize control of local authorities and place them under federal rule (via CBC.ca):
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’s invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada’s history to give the federal government extra powers to handle ongoing blockades and protests against pandemic restrictions.
The unprecedented deployment of the Emergencies Act gives police more tools to restore order in places where public assemblies constitute illegal and dangerous activities, such as blockades and occupations, he said. Trudeau said the act also will enable the RCMP to enforce municipal bylaws and provincial offences where required.
The government is also designating and securing critical areas such as border crossings and airports. Invoking the act will also allow the government to make sure that essential services — such as towing services to remove trucks — are rendered, said Trudeau.
The federal government is also going after financial support for illegal activity associated with the convoy protest.
The Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act in the 1980s, defines a national emergency as a temporary “urgent and critical situation” that “seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it.”
The act gives special powers to respond to emergency scenarios affecting public welfare (natural disasters, disease outbreaks), public order (civil unrest), international emergencies or war emergencies.
It grants cabinet the ability to “take special temporary measures that may not be appropriate in normal times” to cope with an “urgent and critical situation” and the resulting fallout. It is still subject to the protections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. (emphasis mine)
By evoking Canada’s Emergencies Act, which grants the federal government broad powers to restore order, Trudeau is allowed the use of military power to disrupt the protests. Canadian officials also plan to tow away vehicles at the protest to keep essential services running, freeze truckers’ personal and corporate bank accounts, and suspend the insurance on their rigs, according to the AP. Obviously, this a liberty-killing move, but using the fictional Emperor Palpatine as an example, it’s quite possible that Justin Trudeau could use the situation to begin taking the first steps towards greater abuses of power in the future.
In Star Wars II – The Attack of the Clones, the Emergency Powers Act or EPA was an amendment to the Galactic Constitution that among other things, granted “temporary powers” for chancellors to make instant decisions without the need for full senate approval, giving Palpatine all necessary authority to attempt to end the Separatist Crisis, including declaration of martial law on local systems.
The powers granted to Palpatine gave him open-ended authority for the duration of the emergency, however, Palpatine himself was the only person who had the authority to declare when the emergency was over.
Since his intention was to never relinquish power, the emergency never ended, and Palpatine’s power increased to the point that he eventually dissolved the Republic and replaced it with the Galactic Empire to insure a “safe and secure” society.
On that day, the senate cheered, prompting Senator Padmé Amidala to utter these infamous words:
“So, this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause.”
For those thinking that Canada’s tyranny has nothing to do with America, think again.
A few days after Justin Trudeau said that his government would be willing to “respond with whatever it takes” to address the Freedom Convey problem, U.S. officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, put pressure on their Canadian counterparts to use federal powers to bring an end to the blockades.
Last week, Joe Biden and his Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a warning to federal and local law enforcement that truck driver protests like those taking place in Canada could be coming to America. In response, DHS released an advisory that labeled people exercising their free speech rights to oppose COVID tyranny as domestic terrorists.
DHS described these domestic terrorists as people spreading “any information or opinions that are considered ‘anti-government’ [and] are considered a ‘threat’ to America’s national security.”
Just a reminder, Joe Biden has been using “domestic terrorism” rhetoric as an excuse to deny people their right to protest the government concerning COVID while he builds a police state.
This is how Biden described “domestic terrorism” shortly after his inauguration:
“Domestic terrorism — driven by hate, bigotry and other forms of extremism — is a stain on the soul of America. It goes against everything our country strives for, and it poses a direct challenge to our national security, democracy and unity.” (emphasis mine)
A “police state” is defined as: a totalitarian state or country in which a national police force, esp. a secret police, suppresses any act that conflicts with government policy. (Random House Kernerman Webster’s College Dictionary, 2010)
Sounds a lot like how Joe Biden rules America. Sounds a lot like how Justin Trudeau rules Canada. Sounds a lot like how Emperor Palpatine ruled the Galactic Empire.
