Trump disregards First Amendment just as he does the Second

Donald Trum - Burn the Constitution

Yesterday, I wrote about how liberals are leveraging the Orlando tragedy in an effort to void the Second Amendment rights of Americans. One of those liberals was Donald Trump, who joined the unconstitutional cause of Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as they sought a ban on so-called “assault weapons.” Trump confirmed this on his twitter account yesterday:

This shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Trump has a long history of wanting a ban on assault weapons, not to mention his demonstrably clear lack of understanding concerning the Constitution, as we see in another news item about the Trump campaign.

Earlier this week, we learned of Trump’s decision to revoke the media credentials of the Washington Post for their “incredibly inaccurate coverage.” They now join: Univision, Buzz Feed, Politico, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, and The Des Moines Register on The Donald’s media Black List.

Much like his treatment of the Second Amendment, Trump’s disregard for the First Amendment shouldn’t be a surprise because he has a history of contempt for this constitutional right as well; particularly when the media refuses to feed his narcissistic persona.

As recently as this past February, Trump said that one of the things he would do as president is open up libel laws so that “when they (the media) write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money.”

Hey, if you’re going to burn the Constitution, you should be able to make a few bucks for your trouble, right?

I know I’ll get some flack for this, but Trump’s behavior regarding the First Amendment is a little too close to the propaganda ministry run by Joseph Goebbels under Adolf Hitler. The similarities are quite frightening. But perhaps I’m worrying about nothing, because yesterday Trump assured the media–at least the ones he hasn’t banned yet–that once he becomes president, he won’t deny press credentials to the press:

“In my (current) case, I’m a person running for office. I rent these large arenas … so I have an option” to deny press access for journalists covering the campaign. “When I’m representing the United States, I wouldn’t do that. But I would let people know if somebody’s untruthful.”

So, I guess this means that much like it is when it comes to his policy positions, Candidate Trump and President Trump aren’t the same person. Oh great! He not only a narcissist, he’s schizophrenic.

“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot

be limited without being lost.” – Thomas Jefferson

One last thought… Besides the obvious threat Trump’s attitude presents to the Constitution, his treatment of the media presents a Catch-22 for his campaign. He is already under the mistaken impression that he doesn’t need to raise a lot of money to win in November because of the free media he’s able to get — he’s received over $2 billion worth so far. How does he think he’s going to keep getting free media coverage if he continues treating them as an adversary?
