When Trump was running to become the GOP nominee for president, his campaign made a host of promises that have turned out to be nothing more than lies intended to finance his campaign and steal votes.
While the list of broken promises is extensive, Trump’s list of fabrications includes these two little tidbits from his 2016 AIPAC speech concerning Israel:
“We will move the American embassy to the eternal capital of the Jewish people, Jerusalem.”
“The Palestinians must come to the table knowing that the bond between the United States and Israel is absolutely, totally unbreakable.”
Trump has been vacillating on moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem since his inauguration in January based on how it impacts his press coverage. One day he’s moving it, the next day he isn’t, and so on. But in the days leading up to his first trip to the Middle East, Trump’s recent decision to sign a waiver delaying the move indicates that it’s off again.
Trump isn’t the first president to delay moving the embassy–the Jerusalem Embassy Act has been the law since 1995–but his sudden Obama-esque embrace of the Palestinians and their talking points is most troubling.
From the beginning of this month–Ben Shapiro is calling it “Trump’s terrible, no-good, very bad anti-Israel month“–the Administration began its Palestinian embrace with a Facebook post by Dan Scavino stating that Trump would be visiting “Palestine”–a “fake” country.
Early this week, as Trump’s people were making preparations for his Middle East trip, a senior Trump official stated that the Western Wall–the wall of the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism–did not belong to Israel. The statement was defended a day later by National Security Advisor H.R. McMasters.
As we learn in a very detailed piece by Daniel Horowitz at Conservative Review, Trump has displayed many other disturbing trends concerning the Middle East, including a meeting with PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the White House and a decision not to sign an executive order designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization.
And now there’s this.
As you’re aware, Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week. According to current and former U.S. officials, these disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State. We have now learned that the classified information was provided by Israel, and that’s very bad news for Israel’s national security: (emphasis mine)
The revelation adds a potential diplomatic complication to the episode. Israel is one of the United States’ most important allies and a major intelligence collector in the Middle East. The revelation that Mr. Trump boasted about some of Israel’s most sensitive information to the Russians could damage the relationship between the two countries. It also raises the possibility that the information could be passed to Iran, Russia’s close ally and Israel’s main threat in the Middle East.
Not good, folks!
